Vibrant and colourful, it has a rich cultural history of its own and is home to several must-see locations. Admired as much for its gigantic forts, palaces, and ancient temples as for its remnants of the Harappan culture, the elaborate architecture and structures will take you back in time to a bygone era.

One of the two models of the British biplanes used in World War I that the city ruler was given is on display here. Enjoy yourself as you immerse yourself in the local markets, rich heritage, and cultural landmarks among visitors from all over the world. Discover the culture that has endured since the Harappan era! Bikaner, which was founded in 1488 by Rao Bikaji, a prince of Rathore, is known for its red sandstone palaces and forts, which reflect the city’s regal lifestyle and age-old splendour.

The city is known as the “camel country” since it is home to one of the biggest camel breeding and research farms in the world as well as some of the greatest riding camels in the world. The Rats Temple, a singular temple devoted to Karni Mata and teeming with rats as the critters are objects of worship, is one of the most bizarre sights!

Famous Places to visit in Rajasthan

Junagarh Fort

This was built in 1593 by Raja Rai Singh. An outstanding assemblage of palaces and temples in ornate galleries, manicured lawns, and windows that mesmerizes you. The Zenana quarters are spellbinding in their incomprehensibly beautiful and imaginative designs. Marvel at the exemplary synthesis of Mughal, Gujarati, and Rajput styles in the Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Chandra Mahal, and Phool Mahal.

Karni Mata Temple

This sanctuary constitutes a permanent residence of an immense number of rats, making the Karni Mata Temple probably the first on the list of most famous places to visit in Bikaner. Every day, 20,000 rats are there to take care of themselves and play around with guests. Originally, it was constructed as a shrine to Karni Mata in the fifteenth century. It consists of marble and stones, which have silver gates designed by Maharaja Ganga Singh. A hanging mesh keeps birds away from the vermin.

Lallgarh Palace

Though this other magnificent castle built by Maharaja Ganga Singh has now been transformed into a hotel, it continues to display its lavish Rajputana interior architecture. A visit to the Ganga Niwas museum should be made to savour the mini paintings developed by the Bikaner School of art. Along with the allure of Harappan, Kushan and Gupta artefacts, there is a library that houses the largest collection of Sanskrit manuscripts.

Jain Temple Bhandasar

The interior of this temple beckons with murals of the 24 Jain teachers and arabesques on the walls and pillars, ornamented with yellow stone carvings and brilliant paints. According to Legend, 40000 kg of ghee was used in construction instead of water!
