Known for its panoramic natural beauty, Jammu & Kashmir is abode to many sacred and best temples. Below mentioned are some of the most famous temples in the state:
  • Vaishno Devi Temple: One of the most revered pilgrimage centres in India, near Katra. The Vaishno Devi-focused goddess shrine sees millions of devotees annually. Devotees need to undertake a strenuous trek to reach the shrine, which stands 5,200 feet above sea level.
  • Amarnath Cave Temple: A place where an ice lingam of Lord Shiva, formed naturally, is worshipped. Hinduism considers this as one of the holiest Mount Kailash. At 12,756 feet above sea level, the route to the temple is very high and consists of a long trek through tough terrain.
  • Shankaracharya Temple: This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated at Shankaracharya Hill in Srinagar; it provides panoramic views of Dal Lake and the city. Constructed in the ninth century and dedicated to the highly acclaimed scholar of India, Adi Shankaracharya:.
  • Raghunath Temple: This is one of the largest temples in Northern India and is situated in Jammu. The temple caters to Lord Rama and is excellent for its beautiful carvings and a large number of temples that honor different deities.
  • Kheer Bhawani Temple: It is dedicated to the goddess Kheer Bhawani, said to be another form of Ragnya Devi. The temple is located in the village of Tulmulla near Srinagar. It derives its name from the rice pudding which is used to make the offering to the goddess. This temple is particularly held in high esteem by the Kashmiri Pandits and has the embracement of a sacred spring.
  • Martand Sun Temple: This ancient temple built to acknowledge Surya, the Sun God, lies in the vicinity of Anantnag. Constructed in the 8th century by Lalitaditya Muktapida belonging to the Karkota Dynasty, it is a source for the history and cultural heritage of the place, with amazing specimens of antiquated architecture.
  • Bahu Fort and Temple: Bahu Fort and Temple The shrine of the Goddess Kali, in its familiar local form of Bave Wali Mata, is a resident of the Bahu Fort of Jammu. Both the fort and the temple give a panoramic view of River Tawi; the history and religious importance of this place are of their kind.
  • Shri Amarnathji Shrine: Nestling at an altitude of 3,888 meters above sea level, this cave shrine of Lord Shiva is one of the most recognized for its spontaneously formed ice Shiva lingam. The Amarnath Yatra is undertaken by thousands of pilgrims in summer.
  • Shri Raghunath Ji Temple: This temple complex is located in Jammu, and it consists of seven shrines. All the shrines at this place are devoted to Lord Rama and various other gods. Each of the shrines has its own individual Shikhara(tower). The walls have been engraved with fine paintings and scriptures.  The visit to these temples not only helps relieve spiritual conditions but also makes one appreciate the cultural and historical heritage existing in Jammu and Kashmir.
